Life is tough as it is. It’s best to simplify it to focus on the most important things.

Here are few tips as you seek to simplify your life and achieve more than than ever before!

1. Gain Knowledge

Intelligent people are always ready to learn. Their ears are open for knowledge. -Proverbs 18:15 NLT

We’re all born void of knowledge and understanding. Thanks to our parents and caregivers who imparted their knowledge and instruction and taught us how to navigate life.

Life is complex, but we can make it simpler.

When we had bought our first home, I was busy one beautiful afternoon in the spring manually pulling weeds out of the grass. After a few hours, I was sweating bullets and it seemed I had not made much of a dent! A neighbor walking by saw me laboring and told me I could buy a treatment that kills the grass weeds. He said I just had to spray the grass and that would do it. I thanked him and did as he advised. A few days later the grass was free of weeds and my back was not broken in two!

Our lack of knowledge in different areas of life can lead us to complicate certain things that can actually be very simple.

2. Love Humility

Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. -Ephesians 4:2 NIV

No one likes to be around arrogant people. Not even God likes them, “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble” (James 4:6). The exaggerated opinion of their own abilities prevent people from listening to the suggestions and advice of others, which eventually affects their relationships.

Humility helps us improve in all areas of life, including relationships.

3. Kiss Perfectionism Good-bye

Perfectionism is the attitude that sets rigid standards of personal performance and rejects everything that is not “perfect.” It can bring on added stress and anxiety that’s detrimental to one’s health.

The reality is that perfection does not exist on planet earth. We should not use this as an excuse for sloppiness and mediocrity.

A perfectionist evaluates the ten things you did, ignores the “flawless” ones, and focuses on the one you messed up making you feel worthless.

This very blog is imperfect; some sentences could’ve been written better and you may even find misspellings. I have published several books and I’m sure you can a mistake or two. I’m relieved when I find errors in books published even by best-sellers!

Perfectionists often become stagnant as they will not advance to the next step until their demand for “perfection” is met. Besides complicating their own lives, they complicate the lives of others in the process.

Here’s my simple advice: kiss perfectionism good-bye! We live in a fallen world, but even as imperfect as it is, we can still make it a beautiful life.

4. Take Action

To simplify your life seek advice or coaching from someone who is experienced in the problem you’re facing. Realize that you don’t have all the answers and it’s totally okay. Grant yourself the opportunity to listen to others and learn from their wisdom. Strive for excellence, not perfection. Do the best on each task and move on to the next step.

Life is a gift. Give yourself permission to mess up and learn from your mistakes. If you learn something from mistakes, then it’s really not a loss, is it?
